Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic, is the process of cleansing the colon by passing several gallons of water through it with the use of special equipment. It is similar to an enema but treats the whole colon, not just the lower bowel. This has the effect of flushing out impacted fecal matter, toxins, mucous, and even parasites that often build up over the passage of time. The results of these unwanted accumulations are illness of all kinds, premature aging, allergies, skin-conditions, fatigue, mental cloudiness, depression and more.
Colon and bowel cancer are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and alternative practitioners believe that it can be prevented by more efficient bowel eliminations and a healthy diet. Providing that care is taken to replace the natural organisms that flourish in the bowel, many health benefits can be expected from a series of colonics. In general, alternative practitioners maintain that an ill-functioning bowel is the source of most diseases, and therefore keeping it clean will be an effective protection against these.
Incomplete elimination of body wastes may result in the following, depending on where the deposits end up:
joint pain and arthritis
irritable bowel syndrome
leaky gut syndrome
acne and other skin problems such as psoriasis
early senility and Alzheimer's disease
chronic fatigue syndrome
cancer, particularly of the bowel
The Toxygen Model BSC-UV is a state of the art colon hydrotherapy device (also known as colonic irrigation). It is therapist assisted for effectiveness, comfort and most importantly, safety.
Preparing Mind, Body and Spirit:
The best colonics are relaxed colonics. Yoga, stretching, soothing music, a walk in Central Park, prayer and meditation, quality of life activities... the time preceding a colonic is a wonderful time to get in touch with your inner zen and your own self-healing potential. Having a colonic is all about letting go of what no longer serves you in your life, and making room for better health, greater vitality and more access to life. So what better way to get ready than to spend some time relaxing and envisioning the health and goodness you desire in your life.
Preparing Your Digestive Tract
It's best to stop eating and drinking 2 hours before your session. This allows your colon a chance to rest and pause its normal activity in preparation for the treatment.
It is also best to eat wholesome, nutritious and lighter foods the 2 days preceding a colonic. Great options are: whole grains, fresh salads, raw fruits and vegetables, fish, poultry, herbal teas, fresh squeezed juices and lots of water.
Do your best to avoid gas-producing foods, all cow dairy and cheeses, processed white flours (white pasta, white bread, white rice), caffeinated beverages, and alcohol.
Being hydrated is really key, because it makes less work for your colon and a more enjoyable colonic for you.
How much does it cost?
All colon hydrotherapy prices are based on a hourly rate of $160
Do colonics help you lose weight?
Yes and no. When our bodies are burdened with toxicity if can affect other systems and functions of the body; which can lead to weight gain, water retention, bloating and inflammation; to name a few. Colon hydrotherapy will not directly make you burn fat however, through the detoxification process our bodies will regain balance, vitality and strength; with weight-loss being a natural byproduct.
What is gravity colon hydrotherapy?
Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy uses the flow of gravity to introduce water into the body.
Are colonics safe?
The ultimate goal of a colon cleanse — whether it’s a type of enema or a colonic — is really to help the digestive organs do their job in the best way possible, managing things that get in the way and interfere with normal bowel functions. Colon cleanses aren’t necessarily needed by every person, but some people can really benefit from eliminating waste, bacterial matter and toxic material that’s stored in their bodies.
Will it hurt?
No, it will not hurt. We work very gently using a slow introduction of water into the colon. There is a small plastic piece called a speculum that is gently inserted into the rectum. The speculum is lubricated so that it slides in easily with no discomfort.
What is a session like?
Very warm water is slowly introduced through the speculum into the rectal canal. You are always in control of your session, if you are feeling uncomfortable, you can stop at any time. If your body is able, more water will be gently introduced into the rectal canal one cup at a time. Then when you feel full, you just say when and the water is released taking any fecal matter or undigested food along with it. If you feel able and ready this process is repeated. Each time you are trying to allow water deeper and deeper into the colon to cleanse it gently. Some abdominal massage may be given to help move the water along past any blockages such as gas bubbles or hardened fecal matter. Everything that is done is done slowly and gently with your safety and comfort in mind as our number one priority. Our therapists are known for their incredible gentleness, compassion and superior training.
How long will a session be?
The first session will take between about 75- 90 minutes. Our therapist will discuss your health history as well as any health issues that you are currently dealing with. She will need to know about any medications that you are taking and will talk a little bit about your eating habits. The actual treatment usually lasts about 45 minutes and everything that is being done will be clearly explained to you.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my treatment?
Is one treatment enough or will I have to come back for more treatments?
It's best to receive a series of three treatments in a row when you first begin. This way you can be somewhat assured of reaching far up into the colon and really doing a good job of cleaning. After the initial series it is really up to you and your therapist to determine what would be a good protocol for you. Each person's bowel health is unique and therefore different people will have varying degrees of needing colonics more or less often in their wellness regimen. For example: if you eat well and take good care of yourself, it may only be necessary to have a series of three once per season (every 3 months). However, if your eating habits are somewhat poor or you are having digestive issues, dealing with an illness, skin problems, fatigue, mental fogginess, irritability, hormone imbalances or an emotional imbalance, it may be beneficial to have treatments on a more regular basis. Each person is different. Just like a car needs regular oil changes to keep it in optimal shape and ensure a long engine life, your body needs a clean colon and water exchange to keep you in optimal shape. We will coach you to create a wellness regimen that is right for you.
Do I need to fast or cleanse before the colonics?
While cleansing or fasting before a colonic is a wonderful way to prepare the body for the greatest release of toxins and unwanted waste matter, it isn't a must. It is important to drink more filtered or pure water and follow the dietary guidelines found above under "Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my treatment?".
What will I feel like after the treatment? Can I work?
It's best to arrange to go home after your first session. That way you can relax and take it easy. Most people find they feel complete after a colonic and their bowels are calm.
If I go three times a day why do I need colon hydrotherapy?
If we eat, drink, move, & breathe, we are processing toxins and waste that build up in the colon over time. These accumulations build up in everyone's bowels, no exceptions. Even the most regular people find an improvement in their sense of wellbeing and bowel habits after having a series of colonics.
If I have not had a bowel movement for several days. Will this solve my problem?
We'd need to know more. It certainly will help if there is a long term back up or constipation. We'll talk about the causes and what you can do to help prevent this from happening.
If I take an oral colon cleanse or laxative why do I need a colonic?
Cleansing by taking oral products can be very harsh and irritating to the gastric lining. We usually discourage the ingestion of herbal and over the counter products that will force the waste through too quickly; creating dehydration and cramping. Long-term use of products like these can create dependency and other undesirable health risks. The timing of when they kick-in (sending you to the bathroom) is also irregular, outside of your body's natural rhythm and sometimes without any warning. In contrast, your colon hydrotherapy session is a gentle relaxing experience working with your body's natural rhythm. As the water moves gently throughout your colon the muscle walls are toned and strengthened by the therapy, improving your long term colon health.
